Urca and Praia Vermelha Photoshoot in Rio de Janeiro

Praia Vermelha is a small beach in the Urca neighborhood, at the foot of Sugarloaf Mountain. It is usually calmer than the open beaches of the South Zone, and the mountain gives almost every photo a strong background.

It is a good location for sunrise, for golden hour and for sunset. It also works for outfits that need space and wind, like flying dresses, long fabrics and flags.

Why shoot in Urca and Praia Vermelha

  • Sugarloaf Mountain in the background of most shots.
  • Calm water and soft sand for movement and sitting poses.
  • Easy to combine with the Sugarloaf cable car, which is close by.

Best time of day

Early morning gives soft light and a quiet beach. For sunset, the sky behind the mountain changes from blue to orange. In winter the sun sets around 5:20 pm and in summer around 6:45 pm (approximate, check your date).

What to wear

Long, flowing dresses and fabrics that move in the wind look great here. Sequins catch the light, and bright colors stand out against the green mountain. Bring a sarong or flag if you like.

Yes. The light changes quickly behind Sugarloaf, so we plan to arrive a little before the golden hour.

Do I need to enter the water?

Only if you want to. Many photos work at the water line, and we decide on the day based on the sea and the weather.
